@icanopen @veer66 does it matter? 600 efficient, modular packages might be better then 20 bloated packages. Isn't CPU/RAM use more crucial?

@veer66 have you tried #Openbox? All the joy of GUI apps with very little desktop overhead. Good for more advanced #GNU-Linux users

@veer66 you just need to know the exact package name of any apps you want to use in it, so you can launch them from a terminal window ;)

@veer66 wow! Of those I've only tried LXDE, and like XFCE I find it neither light enough nor fully featured enough to be useful

@veer66 sure, but #Cinammon runs perfectly fine on 2GB of RAM. If I want to free up RAM, I switch to Openbox. What's the advantage of XFCE?

@veer66 I'm just curious to know why you would use #XFCE instead of a full-featured desktop environment when you have so much RAM?

@veer66 although to be fair it's probably a decade or more since I tried XFCE, maybe it's got a lot better since then

@icanopen @veer66 does #Cinammon have those same dependency issues? I find it runs better than #GNOME on the same hardware

@veer66 @icanopen most of those packages are probably multi-use tools and libraries that only take up a few KB each.

@veer66 @icanopen beside, it's not like we're still using tiny drives (no USB or remote storage), where every KB of space is precious.
