@z428 @edgecontrol lots of studies are made about what makes people stay in facebook.
personnaly people around me often say these :
top reason: "people i know are also stuck here, even if i guess fb does not good things i don't want to try anything else"
    - "integrated messenger makes it easy to keep in touch (and spam people where they are)"
    - "events feature is not found anywhere else"
    - lazyness to know what evil fb does and lazyness to move

@edgecontrol we must develop something in the #fediverse to make Events feature where we could subscribe to with a #mastodon / #pleroma / #diaspora account to help people switch from #facebook

@tykayn @edgecontrol Well actually, around here, people aren't using the Events feature at all. It's most of the time really that approach, like:

"People I know are here, and even if I wanted to leave, I know I'll not be able to get them all to move elsewhere, and keeping in touch with them is important enough *to me* to stay there."

      Plus ...

@tykayn @edgecontrol ... those who seem more willing to move usually are totally overwhelmed by what they see: "Should I choose mastodon or diaspora or friendica? How can I even get started on that thing if all I have is a smartphone? How can I find people I already know on that network? What does that "instance" thing actually even *mean*? I just want it as accessible and straightforward as Facebook or WhatsApp have proven it's possible."

@z428 @edgecontrol yup, these are common barreers. we must think why we took the change, and what makes it important for us to take the change.
i care about privacy in many ways. conversations, places, pictures i take, and pictures of my little daugter.

on that topic, i am making people around me trying mamot and escaping skype/messenger/whatsapp by introducing them to #Telegram. but what can i advice them to use if they don't have a fuking cellphone to register ? @Framasoft #degooglisons

@tykayn @edgecontrol @Framasoft Yes, I'm trying to go down the same route. #Telegram is something that seems acceptable to end-users but has a reputation just a little better (if at all) than #WhatsApp in the #fedivers for obvious reasons. Likewise, I know a load of people who *exclusively* use smartphones these days and aren't able to, in example, sign up for any service that requires an e-mail address.
