Im only posting this because i saw a post floating around how it was toxic to ever share a DM and i really didnt want to pick a fight with someone, but i also wanted people to know why i dont agree.

Theres always going to be circumstances where privacy should not be respected and its the right thing to do.

Like if you tell me in private you plan to murder an innocent person, im right to expose you.

Or if you send me threatening or harassing messages.

You dont get to throw evil at me then whine about your privacy when i reveal it.

Another example is i have friends who infiltrated and exposed the private chats of neo nazis. This was the right thing to do, and their privacy means shit here.

@Laurelai Sharing DMs isn't toxic if it is exposing someones shity behavior, to think people actually believe that is absurd, if you do something shitty you need to deal with the consequences.

@Laurelai yeah, Kara got nailed by that once

someone sent hir a death threat privately, shi was scared and copy-pasted the message to someone shi thought of as a friend who would advise her, and hir "friend" instead ripped hir a new one for violating the boundaries of the person who sent the threat

That is one of the unspoken rules to society, that despite the right to freedom and privacy they are contingent on everyone else not doing something that will invalidate those rights.

The spread of hate is often argued to not be a part of that. I say that it is, and if you seek to marginalize others that you know you have forfeited the right to freedom and privacy.
