52 years ago today Gus Grissom, Ed White, and Roger Chaffee died in a cabin fire in Apollo 1.
The crew wasn't fitted for a launch that day, it was strictly on-pad testing, and so was designated AS-204. It was reclassified as "Manned Mission 1" in remembrance of the crew.
