sometimes i see people "quote tooting" by copying a link to the original post and then adding a reply and like... why??

there's a reason mastodon hasn't implemented quote toots. (pleroma doesn't have them either - i don't know if they have the same reasoning.) they can occasionally be helpful and they're good in a vacuum, but they're often used to harass and "dunk on" and all that crap. it's effectively a way to reply to something without actually notifying the person that they're being replied to.

and yes, i know misskey has a quote feature (they call it "renote"), and no i don't think that's a good thing
