   PixelFed is a free open federated alternative to Instagram.

   There are lots of different instances you can sign up at, for example:

   https://pixelfed.fedilab.app

   It is part of the ActivityPub-powered Fediverse, so you can follow PixelFed accounts from Mastodon etc. For example: @earth

     I realise a lot of people will know about PixelFed already, but it's just been updated to 0.9 which has a greatly upgraded federation system amongst other improvements, so it's worth taking another look if you tried it before.

     Also, a lot of people still think PixelFed means pixelfed.social (which is currently closed to new members), but you can sign up at any of the instances listed. The ones listedare all updated to 0.9 and open to new members.
