Practically everything the Evangelicals teach is thoroughly modern and American inventions.

One of the reasons for this is that much of the Evangelical movements were built by those with little or no education in theology or church history, some itinerant revival preachers were even illiterate, so they've invented their doctrines out of surface readings of the Bible, out of thin air and out of context.
