TIL: The story of the farmer and gatherer seems to be wrong. The shift from gathering and hunting to agriculture and farming in the first centuries made the food supply more unstable, more unpredictable, instead of more stable and "progressive" as i learned in School (and at the university for that matter). This was told to me by an archaeologist who sat next to me during my train ride.

There's a fantastic book on this topic called Against The Grain which I highly recommend, there's a review of it here for a summary of what it says: https://www.lrb.co.uk/v39/n23/steven-mithen/why-did-we-start-farmingChthonic Librarian Socialism repeated this. -
