   I think this is something you would have to discuss with website owners directly, because there's presumably very little awareness of this issue.

   I'm guessing most people simply aren't aware where the .io domain comes from, especially nowadays when generic non-country domains like .data or .xyz dominate the lists of available names.

   (How many people know .tv is from Tuvalu?)

     (p.s. Just to add, this wasn't meant as an excuse, but a description of the main barrier to action.

     If people don't even know there's a problem, they can't do anything about it. In some cases simply making people aware may be enough to make them change domains?)
