Coffee has one of the worst carbon footprints of any daily consumed item and I think people refuse to admit it
-
@lain depends, was she mail order?
-
@chumii it's a massive amount of work to ship it around the world and container ships in international waters do not need to follow any emissions standards so they take advantage of it
-
@hypnotransgirl no, container ships are the worst and that's how coffee is transported

@hypnotransgirl yeah but you're being an obnoxious vague cunt and thinking you're cheeky. You might as well have said THE WORST POLLUTER IS HUMANITY LOL
Try being concise once in a while, maybe people will give a shit. Speaking on vagaries gets no attention. You will not end capitalism and build your communist utopia. Piss off.

@hypnotransgirl and no we do not have the technology to make container ships zero emissions AND keep them moving at the same speeds. Economies will collapse and people will starve
-
@alexa @chumii @lain yes don't accept guilt, just be aware and educate others. It can create massive social and behavioral changes

More the point: I think a carbon tax could seriously affect Starbucks. Maybe lead to bankruptcy. Nobody's buying a $12 latte that isn't actually good, and certainly not daily anymore.
Smaller third wave coffee shops could survive as their customers are used to paying a premium and don't treat the coffee drinks like soft drink replacements.

The soda tax had a huge impact on consumption where it was implemented and that was a minor price increase in comparison to the impacts of a carbon tax.
