I am not a fan of Microsoft being active in the Linux kernel community.
Microsoft does not play well with others.
It makes me VERY nervous to think of the "influence" Microsoft would like to assert.

@Algot I 100% agree, I'm a huge OSS contributor and refuse to touch their stuff. With tat said their move to oss is at least somewhat of an improvement.
@Algot I agree, and share your concern. Just saying it is still an improvement for MS. They went from super duper evil to just super evil. Doesn't mean ill trust them but i will recognize the marginal effort they put in to being less evil.
@Algot I agree, though im not worried about GPL specific in anyway, its largely going out of favor as a license anyway. But rather the OSS spirit in general.
But I suspect we are saying the same thing just different words.
I'm not even sure what my fears are to be able to articulate them fully. I dont see business as inherently evil. Some are, some arent. Microsoft and Facebook and the like just dont strike as the good guys. Even if they may fool themselves into thinking they are.
Im not sure they appeal to businesses any more so than the general public. Everyone benefits equally imo.
I think photosho vs gimp is more the exception than the rule. Most tools i use on linux i find far superior to their windows counterpart.
I dont know the origin of the word. Maybe that is true. But im more concerned with what it is than the etymology of a word anyway.
In terms fo graphic artist tools as a whole I agree, OSXis the winner, even windows is better. But as i said largely outside of the graphic arts arena linux is the winner in most cases. vim, emacs, git, pretty much all the tools I care about are all far superior IMO.
Part of the problem is that people disagree on the definition of freedom.
I have a great deal of respect for algot, and we seem to be both OSS enthusiasts to some degree. Yet even we disagree on what freedom means for us (I am strongly anti-GPL pro-MIT/Apache, he is the opposite)
You could hack them to work on windows in one way or another (either compile it natively or use cygwin, not sure how they do it).. Sadly however their windows varients dont perform nearly as well as their linux counterpart. But that is probably more to blame for windows poor performance than anything to do with the software itself.
col history. But the etymology of the name isnt something that is particularly concerning for me.
