      @BarkMarnett @noemu @rubenquidam @EccentricElephant Negroponte is a charlatan. He took $40M for #OLPC, then asked for donations too. The stated goal was putting an open, hackable learning tool in the hands of underprivileged children... But secretly, he made a deal with Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer to help them market cut-down versions of Windows and Office to schools in developing countries.

      OLPC employees first learnt this from the press release. Pure bait and switch.

      @BarkMarnett @noemu @rubenquidam @EccentricElephant Actually that was a bit inaccurate: some OLPC employees knew about the deal with Microsoft, but kept it quiet with the open source developers, contractors and volunteers working night and day on the Linux-based OLPC OS and the GNOME-based Sugar environment.
