   People have warned against a big player setting up shop in the Fediverse and taking over, but it's already happened. That's what mastodon.social is. The fact that it's not yet owned by a surveillance capitalist company is irrelevant. Github wasn't either. They're just gonna buy Eugen.

     @freakazoid not even just that -- the hostile takeover of the fediverse under the Mastodon branding damages the reason for the fediverse to exist. We're still young here, so it's more like when Yahoo ran the world for a while than when GMail ate everyone's lunch.
