I've been working on removing the freehub from Old Yeller since Sunday. Removing the cassette was a piece of cake. The fun, if you call many trips to the hardware store and Amazon shopping fun, was hunting the correct size hex wrench. I first bought a set of hex wrenches that went up to 10 mm since most of what I've read said 10mm is pretty standard. Well 10mm is too small. The local stores (Lowes, Home Depot, AutoZone, etc...) don't carry anything larger than 10mm. I hopped on Amazon thinking 12mm would do it. For good measure I bought a kit that went up to 14mm. They arrived today. The one size it didn't have was an 11mm. I think that is what I need to get the old freehub removed. Then I need to determine if any of the freehubs I've ordered are the correct one. Ugh.
I've changed my line of thinking with repairs. I want to handle them instead of taking the bike to the LBS. Once I learn my part numbers I'll be able to take care of repairs quicker. I came close to just buying a new bike but that is not who I am. I will ride this bike until the frame snaps in two.
Ride on. ☮
PS. Anyone need some hex wrenches? LOL.

@VoronoV Thank-you very much! Great resources.
Performing a keyword search for "Tiagra freehub" I come up with this. https://si.shimano.com/pdfs/ev/EV-FH-4600-3149.pdf It looks like what I have. Nothing to confirm that the Y3BL03000 fixing bolt is 11mm but I'll keep looking. I have an 11mm hex wrench on order.
The SJS site looks like a great place to order parts. Not sure how shipping to US will go but I may find out soon.
Wouldn't it be great if bikes came with a parts manual? Nothing but generic descriptions for my bike. https://www.giant-bicycles.com/us/anyroad-1-2017
Thanks again. ☮

@tagomago Thanks! Once I identify all the parts and tools I should be set. ☮

@VoronoV Thanks. I've order a 11mm wrench that should be delivered tomorrow. Hopefully once I get the freehub off there will be something identifiable.
Thanks again.

@VoronoV 10mm seems to be the most common.

Interesting that the only difference between these two Shimano TIAGRA freehubs FH-4500 and FH-4600 is an additional length quick release skewer on the FH-4600.

This is encouraging since I have a FH-4500 on order. 👍

@yukiame Why does an additional length skewer matter if all the other parts are identical? All I need is the freehub body.

@yukiame LOL

@yukiame I'm a vegetarian. Perhaps some grilled veggies on a skewer... 🤔

@namida12 I talked with the guys at the LBS a few months ago about going with a 105. There were some obstacles. I don't recall what they were but we collectively decided to stay the course. Sunday I was considering this new bike which has a 105 but I came to my senses. https://www.giant-bicycles.com/us/contend-ar-1-2020 I need to repair the bike I have and ride it until it disintegrates. :bicycle:

11 mm hex wrench fits my freehub. Removed it. If I receive the correct one tomorrow I may be riding Old Yeller on Saturday. 🤞:bicycle:

@cigarBGuitarEfx If there is an LBC I don't know about it. We have some group rides that are organized, I think by an LBS. I've never heard any talk of repair work. I've seen some emails about selling a used bike but that is about it. A club would be a nice way to learn. I'm in the trial and error solo club right now. ;-)

@cigarBGuitarEfx That is a great club. Super nice. 👍👍

@rpcutts Welcome to the club. Good to have a backup. ☮

@ollyclarkdotorg I didn't know you were on the sidelines. (my timeline is a forest). Congrats on the all-clear. :bicycle: 👍 @rpcutts
