QOTO Announcements & Polls
For those of you who missed the announcement from the @freemo account just wanted to reiterate it here.
In honor of our new Indian friends we added two new emoji to the server.

Also if anyone has any emoji they want added, even if its just for personal use (like a monogram of your name or a picture of your own face, anything) we can add it. Just send a 50kb or less PNG image to @freemo and it can be added.

anyone who goes to your old account on M.S would be forwarded to your new account automatically (and it would say on your account that you moved to the new location).
You can also import all your followers to your new account. Old posts will remain under your old account but since the account links to your new one this may not be a big deal for you, since you can still access old posts.

ou can migrate who you follow, but not who follows you. They have to choose to follow the new account, which is encouraged through the forwarding placed on your old account.
Usually what users do is they import the list of people they follow then just send an announcement to everyone to encourage you to refollow you at the new account.

To clarify, you can only import the people you follow. the people who follow you need to choose to follow the new account. But the forwarding on your old account helps to encourage them to do so.

I wasnt aware that pakistanians were a large part of the exodus as well. In that case I'd welcome any suggestions for pakistanian pride emoji. I'll try to find a flag.

Since you are on M.S and not qoto sadly you wont be able to use it :( Only QOTO users can use our emoji unless the server your on copies it to themselves.

@freemo @Deepsealioness @QOTO As far as mastodon.social goes, some instances and users silence it due to sometimes defective/very slow moderation (see @ArtistMarciaX's recent experience with trolls). It's generally better if we can spread out onto lots of small instances, as it makes moderation easier and makes sure it becomes less centralized (mastodon with everyone on one instance is just Twitter again - centralized! )

I tend to agree, particularly because it means a higher moderator to user ratio so us mods can actually consider the human aspect behind our decisions.
Also it means smaller servers like #QOTO will respond much quicker to trolls and spam accounts. That means we have a relatively clean local timeline with almost no ads and very little drama.

We dont block instances usually but we do have rules in place for what would get an instance blocked, but so far we havent needed to use it.
We do silence a few instances and in those cases we have our reasoning and discussion public.
As a general rule we will federate with any instance that moderates against harassment (if a user is asked to be left alone the server rules ensure they will be).

No, but only because they have largely left us alone. None of our users have had to report gab because gab doesnt interact with our users very often.
We did have a harassment case once but once we discussed it with the moderators at GAB they decided to moderate the account and resolve the issue. As such we didnt have any grounds at the time to take further action as they honored our terms for federation by protecting our users against harassment.
To be honest given their track record I wasnt expecting that outcome. But since none of our users have reported gab or had any incident with them that wasnt resolved we havent yet needed to resort to a ban.

I had to specifically add it, so that doesnt appear to be so. Though you could paste it as a unicodecharacter instead I think, but thats not really an emoji.
When I uploaded it i did a quick check on the emoji federation and it appears #QOTO was the first to add the indian flag emoji, but other servers may have copied it since then? I could be wrong though, but I didnt see it when I went to add it anyway.

Yea, but unicode isnt the same as an emoji, though they do present similarly to some users.

Sort of but fact remains that in this case the indian flag is not a emoji that ships with mastodon. As such users who dont have unicode support wont see the flag the way you posted it while users wh post it as a emoji will allow everyone to see it regardless of their settings or font support.
