    • QOTO User Count

@users Two important / note worthy things on this post :

    - QOTO just got over the 6,000 user accounts in total. 😄 Wasn;t long ago we were waiting for the 5,000 mark to be reached!

    - And anyone notice a sharp spike in the graphs - near the center? No, it is not a glitch. What would have happened?

That spike was the rash of spam bots we got. Lasted about 30 minutes before we blacklisted the emails and managed to purge the accounts

Everyone disappears from the fediverse on the holidays. Oddly in terms of users the holidays sees reverse usage statistics from a site like FB which tends to be very active.

If you look at the user bot for example you'll notice signups halved the week of christmas and are just today starting to pick back up slowly.

Its also very common in the fediverse to see users come and go. They disapear for a month or even two then come back and get active again out of nowhere, really common pattern.

As a moderator this can sometimes be unsettling because you see what looks like good users constantly leaving the server. But if you just check out our active user count ratio to the total number of users, its pretty good. Showing people may not be very active but they do keep coming back.

This becomes especially poignent once you add to the fact that we as a server do not delete inactive accounts (as many others do). We have nearly 1/3rd of all registered users over the 2 years since QOTO has been online that still come back and use their accounts to post at least once every month. I'd say thats a pretty impressive retention ratio.
