@hansw Just moved to spacemacs for my IDE. Not exactly VIM but similar. Really love it. It was what i needed to make the switch (not a fan of plain VIM as an IDE).

You can build one with nice code highlighting, project tree, the works.. But either it takes a lot of effort to get all the bits working, or it still falls short.
Even with a lot of time spent getting vim to where you want it spacemacs gives me all that out of the box and makes maining conrfiguration a breeze. Its hard for me to see any reason to go with vim over spacemacs at this point and I'm not sure I've seen a vim yet that has the nice powerline status bad spacemacs has.
