@codewiz
Wayland have increase security by isolating apps but in a desktop some people have to pickup color on other apps, make screenshots and need an app control another for display (remote desktop). So Wayland actually is disabled to goiing to xorg in my company.
@wallace I don't follow Wayland development closely, but my understanding is that they're addressing these usecases with a combination of Wayland protocol extensions and dbus services offered by a privileged desktop component (GNOME Shell, Plasma Shell, etc.)
Screenshots already work for me in KDE with the default screenshot app, Spectacle. Desktop sharing works in Chromium via Pipewire.
@wallace I suppose the desktop could authorize 3rd-party apps using some sort of permission system, perhaps the same permissions used by Flatpak sandboxing?
@tchx84 might know what's on the roadmap for Linux app sandboxing.
@wallace Earlier this year, #OBS Studio added #Wayland screen capture support via #Pipewire:

At this point there are multiple options on Wayland for each major use-case: desktop sharing, realtime broadcasting, recording videogames, etc.
Not sure if there's a solution for color-picking in paint apps.
@codewiz
I hope all softwares will be updated to manage this.
@wallace @pitbuster Wayland is still under rapid development. Try with a distro that ships up-to-date versions of GNOME.
@pitbuster
I don't have retest screen calibration but last time on wayland debian 10 it don't work
@codewiz
@codewiz @wallace there is a worse problem for painting apss, in the lack of color calibration/management :(
@codewiz @wallace @pitbuster it works good. There is one bug tho in gnome-shell: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1947045
I cannot say who is to blame here but this is not happening on xorg so wayland? Also i test it in sway from time to time and disable Xwayland to check the state of the apps and ability to run in wayland only. Not so good at the moment. It will be better :)
Not the person asked and I'm late but the screen casting and screenshot XDG portals should be usable from outside of flatpak. I would think color picking also but I'm not sure if that's a portal or gnome-specific API.
As for remote-desktop, I'm fairly sure there's no cross-desktop solution. GNOME has its own server to handle VNC and RDP (although not sure if RDP is ready).
