@dentangle @jens @DeveloperMemes Java and Rust seem almost complete opposites to me.
Java is purely OOP, runtime-dispatched, and runs in a VM with garbage collection. Rust pushes all the way on compile-time checking, with heavy use of templates for static polymorphism, more move semantics and more RAII than C++. No exceptions and no virtual-machine.
The only common characteristic between Rust and Java is having less undefined behavior than C/C++. But pretty much any newer language does that...
@jens @DeveloperMemes When Java first came out I kept hearing it was going to be the next big thing. I looked at it and decided "not yet, maybe later". I kept looking at it from time to time before deciding "no". Some good ideas, but what a mess.
I feel the same way about Rust now. Lots of people pushing a language with some good ideas that isn't ready and probably never will be.
@DeveloperMemes I made a conscious decision not to touch Java around 2005, and have broken that only rarely and briefly. So, no.
