@keadamander It's obvious that he isn't an Amiga expert.

He says that the HAM and Extra Half Brite modes couldn't be used in games because of the weird pixel format, but EHB uses 6 regular bitplanes with a reasonable limitation on the palette: pick the first 32 colors any the other 32 colors are repeated with half the RGB brightness.

@quattro_bit @keadamander Interesting, I never heard of Pioneer Plague before. I checked the gameplay, but apart for the mothership at the beginning of the level, the backgrounds and the objects have surprisingly limited color shading:

@codewiz @keadamander , if I remember correctly, Bill Williams did 2 games that uses HAM mode, Pioneer Plague and Knights of the Crystallion.

@quattro_bit @keadamander I think the trick consists in drawing the background using only the 16-color palette (yes, HAM has a palette too!) and drawing a black border around the ship to avoid HAM's typical horizontal color bleeding.

@codewiz @keadamander yes, you're right about the mothership. Williams spoke briefly about his interest in using HAM mode during a 1989 interview, here: http://vgpavilion.com/mags/1989/02/yaam/yaam-interview-bill-williams/
