   @groovestomp I would say that particular subject can't be a matter of opinion, but a matter of numbers? Thing is whether numbers (aka facts presented) are trusted or not. But then anything is possible.

     My father in law is convinced that the world is significantly more dangerous today than it was in the 70s. Specifically with regard to kidnappings and violent crimes, especially those committee by strangers.
     He has held this position steadfastly for over ten years at least.
     Whenever this comes up I end up nodding in agreement because there is nothing I can say to get him to consider that things might possibly be different than he thinks.
