    "We do our best to confuse the foreigners.."

    Article about the "green frog", the train car which was for many years prominently in Shibuya, next to the famous Hachiko statue. In Japanese, "green frog" is 青ガエル. 青 is actually "blue" but also used for "green". So "the traffic light turned green" in #japanese is expressed "青になりました", also using the kanji for "blue".

      @globalc That would explain why an 80s Japanese game (Payload) shows blue lights on the traffic lights instead of green ones... :thaenkin:

      @globalc @benoit Localization for this game was built-in, which is really rare for a 1985 game. If you hit F1 on the title screen the game starts in Japanese, F2 for English.

      @tagomago
      Would not be surprised if they actually made a localization for the west then with "real green" traffic lights. Maybe I drop https://legendsoflocalization.com/ a line about this.

      Awesome, never saw this made it then basically back from 'calling it blue' into also actually using blue in video games..
