@globalc A substantial deduction I couldn't use back in Japan was having almost 100% of the rent paid pre-tax if you let your employer sign the rent contract. There were some limitations, and the building where I wanted to live wasn't eligible because too old.
@codewiz Great to hear you came out with comparable numbers! Yea, resident tax is calculated extra, to be payed once per year, I mentioned it below the table with the monthly deductions. Had not realized so far it was 10%. I also did not look extra here on how many deductions I had on the income via company stock.
@globalc@codewiz Even Rakuten is not helping you finding an apartment nor being a guarantor so... That kind of companies must be rare, probably those doing JET program for english teaching.
@codewiz No chance on that, company refused to do all such things, also to act as guarantor. If other companies are more willing to do that, it's a real plus for people who want to go to Japan.
