Comparing the Samsung S22+ telefoto lens with the Pixel 6 Pro periscope lens, both shooting at 20x zoom.
The Samsung digital processing blurred everything and completely erased some of the features on the buildings' facades.

@codewiz I'd think that Samsung could do better, considering the price. I'm guessing the left pic is from the Samsung.
@codewiz Why is left much more zoomed in though? Did you crop it?
@codewiz which one is Samsung?
@tagomago I did a bad job at matching the two shots with cropping. Let me try again...
Left: Samsung S22+
Right: Pixel 6 Pro
@flutergork Yes, the S22+ is the one on the left. Sorry for not making it clear in the original post.
@Maryam The Samsung is the one on the left.
@codewiz You did, in a manner of speaking. You said the blurry pic was from the Samsung. I was just making sure, since I'm old. 👴
@codewiz I have an Honor phone. I moved away from Samsung as my main phone, since Samsung and/or Google were adding apps, and basically useless ones at that, without permission. The Honor has a 48MP AI camera in it. I'll have to do a better job of checking it out, now that it's warmer out.
@codewiz Yeah, Pixel's software seems a lot better. Although both look a bit like having this Photoshop comic filter applied.
@dazinism @globalc @tagomago Doesn't the GCam app also run on Lineage?
@globalc
As GrapheneOS only works on Pixels the app is well tested on them. It always does HDR+ except on the Pixel 3s when you have shots optimised for latency rather than quality
If you install GrapheneOS on your phone you can install Google Services Framework (available from the GrapheneOS apps repository) deny its network permission and run the Google Camera app. @tagomago @codewiz
@dazinism
Thanks for the hint! My experiences were from last year, maybe time to look again.

The new(ish) GrapheneOS Camera app is really pretty good.
https://github.com/GrapheneOS/Camera
Where phones have support for CameraX it provides extra features like nightsite, slowmo etc. (Unfortunately Pixels dont have these CameraX extensions yet - many modern Samsungs do however)
Its on Play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.grapheneos.camera.play if you dont have Play you can get it and get updates via the software repository app https://github.com/GrapheneOS/Camera @tagomago @codewiz
@tagomago @codewiz
I'm happy with my Pixel 4a's pictures, but it's also a serious downside so much happens in the (closed) camera app: I moved back from LineageOS because the pictures were so bad..
