     @dosnostalgic these things are so unnecessary. In the end it’s a check that can be trivially bypassed. The more the dev codes the system before the check, the more chances it’ll be an independent routine added after the game is built, which will make it even easier to bypass.

     👆A lot of people have played a pirated version of Prince of Persia, so they've never seen this screen. Which also reminds of this: most people who have only played it pirated have no idea that you could SAVE and LOAD in Prince of Persia, or that it has a special training mode.🤷♂️

     @dosnostalgic Without the copy protection level the game has such a consistent tone of presentation. When I finally played the "real" version with the copy protect in it, it felt like it completely breaks the spell of the game's setting.

     The cracked versions ended up being a better experience.

     @yngmar Yeah, no. I've also only played pirated games for like half of my life (The only way games were available where I was from,) and chances of progressing past one level, pressing CTRL-S, and then pressing CTRL-L on a title screen, and title screen only are next to 0. I've been sharing this factoid with people for 30 years, and yes, people are still surprised. I get this about once a month.

     @dosnostalgic We poor kids forced into piracy would habitually try all key combinations in a new game to find out which did what. So yes, of course we knew about (most of) them 😃

     Yes, that involved a lot of key pressing.
