A giant yellow spider is blocking our path! This species is common in #japan (or at least in this area), and not very dangerous.

@linuxfrickler My friends told me that Miyazaki bought what remained of the forest which inspired Totoro in order to prevent it from being destroyed by urbanization.

      2. Totoro no Mori
Totoro no Mori (トトロの森 , Totoro Forest) is the forest preserve in Sayama Hills, located across Tokorozawa, Saitama Prefecture. It was preserved due to the efforts of the Totoro no Furusato Foundation, founded in April 1990. Hayao Miyazaki has served as member of this organization. The area includes several museums, visitor centers, walking trails and a Totoro statue. In 1991, Totoro's Forest no.1 (トトロの森 1号地 , Toro no Mori 1 gōchi) was born, and in January 2020, the foundation has acquired its 55t

It seems Miyazaki is still actively involved in the efforts to preserve and expand the forest. Totoro no Mori nr. 52 through 55 were established in 2020.

Sayama Nature Park and, beyond it, Tokorozawa City (所沢市).

Some of my best friends live there. With a 50 minutes train ride to Shinjuku, it's the perfect balance between nature and city access.

Her mother lives in this "reformed" rural house.

Not visible in this picture, the back of the house retains the original structure with an engawa (縁側).

My favorite Tekkaman episode was the one with the spores from space that grow into invasive weeds that spread over the entire planet... but they're carnivore! 😂 Thankfully, Andro's blood contains an effective herbicide against the weeds, because his planet faced the same problem before. Gotta rewatch it! @KinmenRisingProject@g0v.social #tekkaman #retroanime
