     #Feditip Wasnt aware this is no longer set as default so:

     If you use mastodon on a desktop device, you can set it to be a multiple columns view like tweetdeck does for twitter. Under settings > preferences > enable advanced web interface.

     As you start to follow more people, you can then create lists of people that you're friends with / interested in / whatever and you can then pin that list as a new column timeline alongside your home timeline.
