Some reports estimate that around 1M people have left #twitter in the last weeks https://www.technologyreview.com/2022/11/03/1062752/twitter-may-have-lost-more-than-a-million-users-since-elon-musk-took-over/. At the same time #mastodon has grown in 860k users since Nov 4th. Here is the plot of the number of users in the #mastodon instances at http://instances.social in the last months.

2. The plot shows the time series of the total number of users in Mastodon as a function of time since Sept 1st. It starts around 5.2 million users and stays below 5.7 until Nov 4th, when Musk completed the purchase of Twitter. Then it began to grow faster and today (Nov 14th) the total number of users is around 6.7 Million users. Since Nov 4th, 860k new users were registered at a mastodon instance

  Estimates from Bot Sentinel suggest that more than 875,000 users deactivated their accounts between October 27 and November 1, while half a million more were suspended.
