    Imagine a comms #UX, where I could choose a contact, choose a rough message length (say, short, medium, or long), and the software would give me an appropriate compose UI for that length of message, and poll the receiver's comms app to determine what protocol they prefer to receive each length of message on. Eg. I could set my app to tell senders I want to receive short messages by SMS, medium ones by #ActivityPub, and long ones by email.

    @sean After reading that issue on github I've decided to close my #diaspora pod because now is clear that it could remain isolated from #ActivityPub
    pod.mastodont.cat is already stopped.

    The stance by some of the #Diaspora core devs over #ActivityPub is quite honestly disappointing, and kind of perpetuates everything that depresses me over that project.

    There are many valid criticisms to be had, but Diaspora in general has done fuck-all to support federation with other platforms, forcing those systems to conform to its own protocol instead.

    The do-nothing attitude of their devs is particularly infuriating because their pushback arguments fall flat when compared against other projects. Friendica put the effort in, as did Hubzilla and Osada. None of them have "perfect" implementations by any means, but people within those projects have nevertheless made some kind of effort.

    Making !GNUsocial work with #ActivityPub is the right thing to do, but I'm not sure that removing OStatus is. Does #Mastodon allow transport protocols to be added as plugins?

    @dragnucs I disagree. Once your federated network survives one severe #bifurcation (the #Pump.io split), you know it can survive others. The #ActivityPub addition is still somewhere in the process, but I doubt that defederating from the #OStstus part of the network would speed it up.

    So it looks like someone in #Pleroma land is trying to implement #ActivityPub C2S, which would make this the first platform that I know of that actually supports it.

    We anticipated then that #ActivityPub would one day allow federated search among MediaGoblin instances (still waiting for that BTW ;) but we never imagined a new package doing that *and* using #WebTorrent to allow users help instances stream videos, as they watch. This is a good example of why I'm so hopeful about the future and why fatalistic predictions are so often wrong. There's just so much that can't be predicted, no matter how much you know about the present state of a system #ChaosTheory

    The #federated #blogging engine, #Plume, has got a fresh new website: https://joinplu.me.

    It is one of the most complete #activitypub projects still in alpha stage, and looking very neat too.

    Things to do to help the project:

    - contribute financially
    - make a translation
    - launch an instance

    There are already some stable and updated Plume #instances running right now: Fediverse.blog, or plume.mastodon.host, or https://plume.hostux.coffee, as well as https://plume.oa-dev.com, more soon.
