I barely just finished posting about #Google's responsibility in killing off #RSS (and in what sense exactly) <https://sociale.network/@oblomov/110395233362332095> that Meta aka #Facebook confirms its upcoming #Instagram #Twitter competitor codenamed #Barcelona will “interoperate with #Mastodon” (i.e. will support #ActivityPub)

Challenging question : was Google really responsible for killing off #RSS by phasing out #GoogleReader? Those that follow me know that at least I for one put at least some weight on @mozilla@mozilla.social , but I still disagree with @eniko@peoplemaking.games's view. Several in the comments there have already mentioned that alternatives to #GoogleReader _do_ exist, but two comments in particular hit (IMO) the nail in the head: 1/n

I discovered today that @prologic has added #ActivityPub support to their twtxt server software https://yarn.social and its largest instance https://twtxt.net essentially bridging the #fediverse and twtxt networks together.

If you are unfamiliar with #twtxt, it is a different take on decentralized microblogging that has been around for many years, and it is quite interesting to see it now bridged between this side and that one!

So, we jumped from #Twitter to #Mastodon, after a man with a sink showed us how fragile centralized platforms really are. And now there's #Bluesky wanting to convince us that their AT Protocol is even more robust than #ActivityPub. But is it really superior and would it have been better to build the #fediverse on top of this protocol, instead?

    Thread time!

Neat interview on today's VergeCast episode by @pierce with @mike about the potential for ActivityPub, Mastodon, the Fediverse, and decentralized social media. McCue's description of Mastodon as a 2-way RSS (2-way streaming), well, I'm still ruminating about it. :mastodon: 🤯 🎧

Decided to try out #Calckey (@stefan)

It still feels a bit beta imo, but it’s easy to see why the design is more likely to have mass appeal – especially once it becomes a bit more stable.

I’m not yet motivated to move anywhere yet, mostly because @ivory has greatly improved the #Mastodon UX for me.

But overall it’s great to experiment in the #fediverse. You get to see the magic of #ActivityPub in action: the simple idea that the apps we choose should not bar us from talking to each other.

#TheVerge is on a roll, social media platform wise. They published an interesting article on #ActivityPub, the underlying protocol of #Mastodon, #Pixelfed and many other #Fediverse thingies.

It goes into detail on the companies that recently joined the club in supporting it, the previous struggles on getting social media more open, and the current trends.

Still missing is the official presence of The Verge here on Mastodon though 😉

    Eyyyyyy, #GNUSocial AUN RESPIRA.

Takahē is a new kind of Fediverse server which is aimed at small to medium size servers. It's unusual as it allows the same server to host multiple domains, and allows each user to have multiple identities. You can find out more from the project's official website at:

You can follow the project's account at:

Takahe accounts can be followed from Mastodon, and it works with Mastodon API apps.

After an afternoon + evening debugging yesterday, we could tackle many issues with the #libervia #XMPP <=> #ActivityPub gateway with @linkmauve .

Thanks a lot to @Claire for her help.

The gateway is confirmed working with native PEP service of #Prosody. And @linkmauve is actually an XMPP account on AP through the gateway.

There are still several issues to fix here and there, but we're on the right way.

And I need feedback to stabilise the gateway!
