It has become known you are reaching out to members of our community to hold secret meetings (1), thereby roping them into a conspiracy of silence. This is not how we do things. This is an open social media network. If you have something to say, create an account and post it to all of us.
Asking you to stop this divisive tactic, and release everyone from any and all legal covenants pertaining to #P92 and the #Fediverse.
Hola, admins de instancias de Mastodon! :gif_cheer:
The free open source forum software NodeBB is now working on official Fediverse support. Federation isn't ready yet, but if this interests you, you might want to follow their account:
Excellent new documentation from @kristinHenry and the mods at vis.social -- I wish every instance had this 🤩
Some highlights: - CWs are content wrappers; used to label off-topic (can add via edit w/o having to repost) - Timeline breakdown (home vs local vs global) and the utility of 'unlisted' - Donation link! - Alt-text and how to add retroactively - Reporting - Mod tools
There's a lot of shit flying in the #Fediverse lately and a lot of times perspective seems to get lost. Yes, there are things we need to talk about, and yes there are things we will not agree on. And that's okay.
But leave the pitchforks and torches out of this.
Fedi admins put in the hours and effort and emotion into making fedi happen. Sometimes they make decisions we might not agree with. We should criticize, but we should not pile-on.
:facebook: ☣️ FLOSS.social was launched in the (now small) Mastodon signup wave at the end of March 2018, as a result of the #Facebook Cambridge Analytica scandal.
Since then, #Meta has shown little to no sincere interest in reforming their culture of abusing their users' human rights of privacy.
As a result, there is no reason to suspect they'll be any different if they join the #Fediverse, and our instance will respond accordingly.
It's really quite easy to migrate to a different #Mastodon instance.
Just moved from mastodon.social to indieweb.social and it took minutes to export and import my follows, blocks, bookmarks and mutes.
And then a few minutes more to set up an alias to retain my followers.
It's not yet possible to migrate old posts of course, but this has never been an issue for me since I regularly archive posts anyway as I don't need my interactions here to be permanent.
Dear @stux, if you have a problem with @welshpixie, block their account from yours, not the whole mastodon.art domain with 32,038 accounts from mstdn.social, the sixth largest fediverse instance*, with 199,388 accounts.
You just decided that 800 people who want to follow WelshPixie from your server will not be allowed to do so because you have a personal issue with them.
There are a lot of worries that it will overtake and pollute the fediverse (incl. Mastodon). There is even a lobby started that wants to coordinate to block Meta en masse. Others say that it's a great opportunity for Mastodon and the fediverse to have more users, content and publicity.
What about todon.eu and todon.nl I hear you ask. I like to poll the todon.* community about what to do with Meta when we have more facts, so when we can make an informed decision.
