#LineageOS y el milagro de la eterna juventud: así disfrutan de #Android 9.0 Pie #smartphones de hace 5 años

Si tienes un OnePlus One y sigues usándolo seguro que sabes de lo que hablo. Hace años que el fabricante se ha olvidado de este modelo, pero la comunidad de 'cocineros' de ROMs no. El OnePlus One -¡lanzado en 2014!- puede presumir de funcionar con Android Pie, algo que muchos teléfonos de última generación siguen sin poder decir.

¿Cómo es posible? El milagro se llama LineageOS, que se ha convertido en el proyecto de referencia para quienes quieren alargar la vida útil de sus dispositivos hasta límites insospechados. La última versión, LineageOS 16, soporta oficialmente más de 30 dispositivos, pero sus variantes llegan aún más lejos y permiten disfrutar de todas las ventajas de las últimas versiones de Android (y algunas otras extra) sin depender de los fabricantes.

@metalbiker you don't need an /e/ account. I'd tested /e/ few months ago but finally installed #LineageOS. Now it will be no longer mantained for my device, but /e/ is (so far), so this weekend I'll make this transition.

The instructions are pretty clear and they are copy/paste from lineageos wiki

I didnt use before because it comes with #microg installed by default and some other apps I didnt like

my #MotoE #condor got a second life thanks to #LineageOS, but it'll be no longer updated. Thanks for all this time together 😘

How easy is it to keep a LineageOS phone updated?

Does it work automatically over the air, like on a normal Android?

@NeoTheThird I didn't watch the video yet, and although you mention #Ubuntu, which isn't #FreeSoftware (per https://www.gnu.org/distros/common-distros.html#Ubuntu ), I do agree that bringing parts of #GNU is good, specially those under #AGPL-3.0-or-later and #GPL-3.0-or-later. Or foster #Replicant for general use instead of #LineageOS (or custom #ROMs), not even #Fuchsia is good according to Eben #Moglen (see https://media.libreplanet.org/u/libreplanet/m/the-free-software-movement-in-the-age-of-trump/ ).

@strypey I bought an already-flashed #Replicant phone from a #FreeSoftware activist from #Brazil / #Brasil that is known for doing this work. WiFi doesn't work yet ( I would still have to get a USB dongle), but at least I get to use the free/libre Replicant instead of a non-free one such as #LineageOS, contribute financially to one of our activists in the country, get to reuse an old phone, and perhaps contribute to the project.

@aral I agree that lots of work must be done. But all software, even non-free ones like #Windows, #macOS, #Android, #iOS, #LineageOS, #Ubuntu, #Fedora, and so on. It's relative to which computer pieces/components you have and what you want to do. What I like about #FreeSoftware system distributions such as #Trisquel, #Replicant and many others listed at http://www.gnu.org/distros/free-distros.html , is the possibility of being empowered to fully control of my material environment. #WTF #WhatsTheFix ?
