#IRC for the 21st Century: Introducing #Riot

Riot is a free, open source, and multi-platform client based on the #Matrix protocol. To understand it better, think of Matrix as the protocol and Riot as the client. Matrix is a decentralized, secure messaging protocol. It has the benefit of using #HTTP / #JSON APIs, is capable of sending and receiving messages with full end-to-end encryption, supports #WebRTC #VoIP/video calling, and maybe most importantly, offers integration capabilities. Matrix was built to integrate with IRC servers and other #communication protocols, meaning you can use the Riot client as an IRC bouncer.

Alert to podmins running older versions

If you are running a version of diaspora*'s software earlier than v0.6.3.0, please read the following important notice:

Our next major version, 0.7.0.0, will include our new federation protocol. This will greatly improve federation in the network and beyond. However, its introduction will break communication with pods running older software.

Full forward-compatibility with the new protocol was introduced in 0.6.3.0. If you are running any version older than this, please update to the latest version to make sure your pod will still be a full part of the network when v0.7.0.0 is released.

Updating is simple and will only take a few minutes. If you are updating from 0.5.x or earlier, there are extra steps; instructions can be found in our wiki.
