    @stephenjahl

    I guess an official statement is still pending on that subject, but it's what I hear from people on the "inside".

    So there's at least a clear tendency, and I think this needs to be brought up right now, not when the final decision has been announced publicly.

    I'm not trying to bash Mozilla here, really not. Big fan of Mozilla and what they did for keeping the net as open as possible...

    We still need to be able to criticize them when they take a wrong turn, though. I hope public discussion can make them at least reconsider said decision.

    Mozilla is shutting down their IRC servers and moving to Discord, a proprietary chat service.

    Hey Mozilla, aren't we forgetting something here? Our very own "Mozilla Pledge for a Healthy Internet” states:

    > Principle 2 The internet is a global public resource that must remain open and accessible.

    > Principle 6 The effectiveness of the internet as a public resource depends upon interoperability (protocols, data formats, content), innovation and decentralized participation worldwide.

    @aetios

    Just thought about that a little more:

    symlinking .cache might actually not do the trick for all browsers. I don't keep a mental list of all browsers' current behavior, but I certainly do remember Firefox & Chromium both abusing ~/.local/share for their caches at some point.

    So, back to the original advice... better keep your entire home on an SSD and just symlink ~/Photos or ~/Movies to your HDD mount.

    @aetios

    You should really move your /home to an SSD, too, and only symlink data-intensive stuff to your HDD mount. This will heavily speed up your desktop. In particular browsers (but also many other apps) store their cache there.

    You can try it out the other way around as well, of course: symlink your ~/.cache to your SSD mount.

    Give it a shot, worth it!

    Davon geh ich aus, ja. Du erstellst einfach zwei Partitionen und sagst dem Installer, dass die eine "/" wird (also die sog. root Partition), und die andere als "/home" ins System eingebunden wird.

    Wuerd ich immer noch empfehlen. Wenn mal wirklich Murks passiert behaelt man die Home Partition und installiert einfach seine root Partition neu (evtl mit vorhandenem Package-List Backup).

    Oder zieht mit seinem existierenden Home gar auf ne ganz andere Distro um.

    Wollte ich auch grad noch anmerken. Unbedingt! Jeder Browser wird es dir danken. Oder du dem Browser. Wie man's sieht πŸ˜‰

    Notfalls einzelne Verzeichnisse per Symlink auf die HDD verlinken. (Photos/Movies etc)

    System definitiv nur noch auf SSD. Wenn dir 500GB reichen, wuerd ich dir dazu raten. Wenn der Speicherplatz aber eigentlich zu knapp waere:

    - 128 (reicht eigentlich meist) oder 256GB boot & home
    - 1TB HDD fuer Daten

    Der Geschwindigkeits-Zuwachs im taeglichen Arbeiten durch die SSD schlaegt jedes CPU Upgrade.

    That admittedly needs some love and updating 😞 Frankly, it should probably be auto-generated from the sources.

    There is a Mastodon hive, which allows you to toot and forward your toots to other services. It doesn't support posting media yet, but hey, that's probably only one friendly feature request on GitHub away from happening πŸ˜‰

    There are two ways to connect to the API. Maybe it doesn't support secrets. I want to switch to registering a proper app and retrieving authtokens, soon.

    Oh, right. Forgot about the API compat layer. So I guess this should already be working, even though the MastodonBee still needs a lot of love: more events & actions!

    No PleromaBee so far, I'm afraid... but they are really easy to write, so there's hope 😊

    Feature requests on GitHub are always appreciated!

    Wow, just wow.

    Tonight I tooted about a little project called Beehive... and apparently you people starred that project on GitHub that much, it actually made it to the list of trending projects today 😊

    Even better: a bunch of contributions and pull requests are already rolling it and, frankly, nothing feels more rewarding to a programmer than that.

    Thank you everyone, you people are simply amazing! Nothing but love for the community on the fediverse!

    Correct, there's only beehive.conf currently. That also means Hives can't store any state - just yet!

    That feature is obviously on the roadmap, though!

    Just a heads up:

    I'm not sure if the original build contained the ca-certificates correctly. That may lead to issues when Beehive tries to connect to something via https.

    I just pushed a fresh build which should fix the (potential) issue. Also, it's like a 100Mb smaller because I dropped all the unnecessary stuff from the image.
