I'm reading up on the Libertarian candidate's platform here in Israel. I find it hard not to agree with a lot of their platform points:

Legalization of Marijuana

Reduction of Government Ministries (In terms of number, from 29 to 11)

Flat Tax, including reduction or removal of Import Quotas and Import Taxes.

Abolishing the rabbinate's control over personal issues (Marriage/Divorce)

Reforming the Judiciary to be wholly civil, with the religious courts only having power over those who agree to have that kind of judge in their life.

Opening up firearms ownership, except in certain situations.

Elimination of Police Brutality- very important.

I don't agree with everything, but those talking points are pretty attractive to me.

@tjemni I use Discord to speak to Specific People that I game with online, so it's more real-time chat between people I actually know for my use case. These are people I roleplay with via TelNet servers/Mush/Mux/Mu* worlds.

Before Mastodon I was never active on Facebook, or twitter- despite having accounts. I still have a FB account that is specifically to receive pictures of my niece and nephew from my sister. I don't use it for anything else.

I sometimes look at forums, and am a member of some small forums- but all of that feels less toxic than what I've gotten the last two weeks on Mastodon. I'm seeing some of the dark-side of social media, and I really don't like it.

It's as ugly as any other kind of hate I've experienced, and it comes from so many directions. It's really very confusing to me- I don't understand how so many people are so angry that they lash out at anyone who talks to them that isn't part of their 'social bubble'.

I'm not about to lash out at anyone, but I'll probably be less interested in posting in other communities going forward. #QOTO is good for me. I like the people here and I like the conversations I've had, regardless of opinions. We've got a mostly good crowd here, imho.

@freemo all I can tell you for sure is that when that overload light starts to flash some 60's sci-fi shit is about to go down.

How do you define human progress?

@Saederup92 @freemo Yeah, that's one thing I love about #QOTO . The entire idea is to teach other people and to ask questions about things.

Abuse is out of the question, though. Always.

@freemo Yeah, it's a really, really neat exhibit. I haven't been there for years. I need to go back- I have vacation beginning of November, and it's an easy get for me. I'll go back to the museum and take some pictures and share them! :D

@freemo I was doing some reading on 'wild escape' from some types of GM Corn and Wheat, and typically they are out competed by wild strains because of how they're engineered- like to have herbicidal resistances.

Those resistances suck up energy and in environments where there aren't any herbicides the environment those plants without the resistance out compete the others.

But, you are correct. Domesticated species do not, typically, survive well in wholly wild environments.

@freemo As I am a member of the Mod team along side you, I'm afraid that my opinion is horribly biased, but I think we do the best we can and do a pretty good job at letting people maintain free speech and being excellent to one another.

But, there is a bit of tooting my own horn in that statement, so take it with a grain of salt! :p

Without joking, though, I wouldn't have accepted your invitation to the moderation team if I thought you were anything other than rational and fairminded. I picked Qoto out of the gate, and I think I picked well. I enjoy it here, and I enjoy the discussions I have here.

That is Sabah. When I left the US I left him with my sister. I knew I couldn't give him a good life with how hectic immigration is. For many years he has been happy and loved by my sister's kids and my sister herself. Today he was put to sleep because of cancer. He is a good boy, and I'm sorry I couldn't be there for him. I'll miss you Sabah, thank you so much for looking after my niece, nephew, and sister all these years.

Hey there fine people of #QOTO and #Mastodon! Another gorgeous day here in Tel Aviv. They really only get nicer now that the worst of the heat of summer is gone.

Honestly, I can't say enough how much I love the weather in Tel Aviv. Apart from two to three months of heat, the rest of the year is super nice. Even then, the heat isn't terrible due to so many places that have great A/C.

If you're on the East Coast of the US, near NC or SC, please be careful. Hurricanes aren't a joke! Best of luck!
