DaveTLV (surasanji@qoto.org)'s status on Thursday, 30-Aug-2018 18:16:16 UTC DaveTLV What, exactly, is my 'brand' of Absurdism?
First, I'll need to define standard Absurdism. I'm going to pull directly from Wikipedia here- it's about as good a definition as I can find, and probably better than what I'd come up with myself:
"In philosophy, "the Absurd" refers to the conflict between the human tendency to seek inherent value and meaning in life and the human inability to find any. In this context absurd does not mean "logically impossible", but rather "humanly impossible". The universe and the human mind do not each separately cause the Absurd, but rather, the Absurd arises by the contradictory nature of the two existing simultaneously. " - Quoted directly from Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Absurdism
That, I feel, sums it up fairly well.
With that in mind, I'll come to how I deal with 'the Absurd'.
Life has no meaning. None of us are supposed to be here. We are, honestly, just lucky to have survived as long as we have. There was no guiding hand, or special consideration in our evolution and in the nature of our existences.
Some people would say that's a fairly dark and depressing viewpoint. I respectfully disagree.

DaveTLV (surasanji@qoto.org)'s status on Thursday, 30-Aug-2018 18:10:12 UTC DaveTLV Hi #qoto ! I think we've gotten to know each other well enough that I'd like to share a bit about #philosophy and how, specifically, it fits into my mushy, mushy brain. I do enjoy sharing this part of myself, so, I'll be honest here- I'm sharing because I want to and I will enjoy doing so.
My personal philosophy is a constructed mess based on my personal experiences, as one would expect. My life, the events there in, my upbringing. Nominally, I'm an Absurdist.
I was brought up fairly religious. Judaism is a very important force among the maternal side of my family. My Mother is very religious, albeit her own flavor of relatively orthodox Judaism. A lot of feminism, and free thought involved in my mother's teachings there.
We said prayers every night. We went to synagogue often. Judaism will always be a core component of my identity, even if I am no longer religious. I identify with my people and their struggles. I identify with their philosophies and thinking- even though I don't believe in any sort of god/God as described by most Abrahamic faiths.

DaveTLV (surasanji@qoto.org)'s status on Thursday, 30-Aug-2018 16:34:11 UTC DaveTLV Hey, what's up! It's time for another #ShareTheMusic
So, I've still got a bit of a sour taste in my mouth regarding the whole situation surrounding @wilw . I think I've made myself clear that sort of bullshittery is extremely upsetting to me.
So, for today, my musical choices are going to be centered around the music of The Mountain Goats.
John Darnielle is the creative push behind The Mountain Goats, a singer-songwriter who puts a lot of thought and feeling into his music. A lot of it seems to be wrapped up in the events surrounding his personal life experiences.
Some of his songs certainly tell of pain and angst. I've collected a few below:

Today's #randomQuestion is as follows:
If you could solve one as of yet unsolved mystery, problem, theorem or other such unknown what would it be?
Again, no wrong answers!
For me, I'd like to solve the P vs NP problem. It's way outside my skill set, sure, but it probably be a way to get some sort of movie deal, right?
Looking forward to hearing your guy's answers!

DaveTLV (surasanji@qoto.org)'s status on Friday, 24-Aug-2018 21:39:22 UTC DaveTLV Oh boy, my weekend is about to start....
But, I didn't tell you guys, yet, about the oddity of Friday Morning in Tel Aviv.
On Thursday night things start to get calmer. By the time Friday morning has come, the whole city feels quieter and lazier as it prepares for Saturday.
As some of you may be aware, Saturday is the Jewish Sabbath. In traditional Jewish time keeping a day is sunset to sunset. At sunset the new day begins (Which is why Jewish Holidays all seem to start the 'day before' the official holiday).
I live near a fairly busy intersection- certainly not the busiest in Tel Aviv, but it's right down the street from the Central Bus Station. Friday morning sees fewer buses. They relax the schedule, since traditionally people have Friday off in the Israeli work week. Your standard '9-5' would work from Sunday to Thursday.
Friday, though. It's like the whole city relaxes. Breathes out, prepares for Saturday. The whole city feels different. You have to experience it, at least once. Imagine if New York or London had like 1/3rd the traffic heading down one of their busy streets, just because it was Friday.
No buses run on Saturday. The garbage man goes by, but that's the heaviest vehicle that zips by my apartment window that faces the street. There are a lot fewer vehicles.
And my entire body is used to it. I sleep deeper on Fridays.
It really is a magical experience. I hope you all get to check it out sometime.

I do make these in Spotify.
Here's one for White Wolf's Geist: The Sineaters.
