@moonman automation is key if you want to maintain it yourself. If it's a hobby project or something like that, migrate to a cloud like Amazon, invest time learning how to use it deeply and all its services, and then pay them to free you of stress.

Services like heroku are expensive but life savers. And remember to subscribe to their status pages! Heroku specially is very detailed about each and every problem they find, workarounds and how much time it took to solve it.

@Maltimore you can also start doing more FP-like with a language you already use. For example, what opened my eyes was LoDash, which takes a very FP paradigm of doing things.

@ekaitz_zarraga is there a clojure-like language that could be used for scripts? The startup time is what kills me, but I love the syntax!

@Numbers for the app you can use react-native. It's trivial to make good looking apps, with access to native features.

The hardest part is the sync layer. If you use something like couchdb as DB, your app could use pouchdb.
That's the simplest solution I can think of.

You can use local notifications in android to set a notification on certain datetimes (when your pomodoro cycle ends?), and you can also receive an Intent when the notification is shown, so you can schedule the next notification.

So, hologram is giving free 4g chips with global coverage with 1mb/mo. What protocols are lightweight enough to do something useful with only 1mb a month? I guess there should be something better than extremely compressed home made tcp protocols for sending / receiving data...

At 7am I had an idea and started coding right away. I just realized it's 12:20 am (yes, am) and I'm extremely hungry and tired. Guess I should set alarms to eat before trying to make an idea work.

@arunisaac just don't pay attention. If they ask directly, explain that how you use your machine in linux is a choice of the user, it's as easy as installing a program, and it's not imposed by the system; if you want to, you can use a graphical system, but you feel more comfortable using commands.

Most people understand it after explaining those points.
