However, if your goal is to be The New Thing, don't. You will run into all the same issues that other protocols (notably XMPP) have already had to tackle several times with the current status being An Acceptable Tradeoff. If we want a global communication standard, we should focus on XMPP, as the most general, well-defined and decentralised alternative available, with many different implementation both of servers and clients, not to mention a broad range of small, medium, and large servers. -

In fact, do not use proprietary solutions.

pettter ✅ (pettter@social.umeahackerspace.se)'s status on Sunday, 28-May-2017 19:15:29 UTC pettter ✅ First part of the Renhornen Germany tour has been completed (the one mostly in Sweden..) - so far a number of fun gigs and quite a few beers and other beverages. Gin Russchian is a new favourite.
Now we go to Berlin, but our gig was cancelled.. Anyone got somewhere for us to play either tomorrow or on tuesday? Poke director@renhornen.com or me somehow. renhornen at various social media platforms, including youtube, for a bunch of examples of our output.
Otherwise I might drop by cbase at some point, or smth. :) -

You join a group like !tzag, or !makita , and then when you tag in the group (with the bang) the post goes to any and all members of the group, no matter if they follow you or not.
I made a post about them sometimes early in the latest migration, I’ll see if I can dig it out. -

pettter ✅ (pettter@social.umeahackerspace.se)'s status on Wednesday, 05-Apr-2017 12:11:43 UTC pettter ✅ So, for all you new users, there's this OStatus thing called "groups", which is indicated with a bang ( ! ), where you can follow, say, a topic (music, security, crypto, games and whatnot), or a specific thing (emacs, coffee etc.), or even a greeting (the tzag group for Time Zone Appropriate Greetings), regardless of who posts about it.
It's a pretty powerful tool, all things considered, and !fediverse and !fedgroups may be of interest for exploring what's out there.
Also, for all you infosec peeps there's of course the !security group, there's also one for !musicians, for !ccmusic, for your current !listening habits, etc.
A limitation is that groups live on a specific instance, though I think there might be proposals to mitigate that... -

Why bridge Matrix/XMPP/OStatus/E-mail/everything instead of using the decently coded, easy-to-install servers already available, and simply integrating them?
Create a usable web interface with OStatus, and private messaging over XMPP/Bosh, add a separate (but integrated) webmail interface. Voilá, a social network for the future, with backwards compatibility already builtin. -
pettter ✅ (pettter@social.umeahackerspace.se)'s status on Tuesday, 14-Feb-2017 20:15:07 UTC pettter ✅ @gargron You have a very weird way of using atom:summary as a "spoiler tag" in my opinion. I can sort of see the reasoning for it, but it's wildly out of touch with the original spec, and have _very_ weird effects when users start using it in creative ways (see e.g. @jephjacques joke-stuff) and it doesn't interoperate properly.
Considering its use in the above instances, could you also send the "summary" as part of the content? That is, as it is shown on your web when showing a specific notice?
Neither Mustard nor AndStatus seem to handle it as you do, and neither does any of the GS web clients.
