After about a week of acting nervous all the time because people were visiting and it changed our schedule Javert has calmed down and last night I actually got a full nights sleep.

Yesterday she went into work with me and passed out on the couch for most of the day. When I looked over and saw her sleeping like this I knew she was going to be ok.

.social was down for a minute and the fluffy elephant friend hitting the keyboard was in sync with the beat of the music I was listening to. It was like it was keeping the beat and it was adorable.

Data visualisation is difficult, we know this.

BUT

we have been doing data vis stuff for many years, basic stuff like this is well understood. You don't pretend you are doing a bar chart and then have both bars the same length because you list the numbers next to it.

I am not sure how MSNBC can do this badly on something so common.

Since it is coming up again:

Mastodon isn't private.

Expect anything you toot to be visible to everyone, regardless of your settings for visibility.

Mastodon is built on a system that isn't appropriate for private conversation and the work arounds for private toots and the like are not in any way robust against someone just ignoring them.

And to be clear, Facebook, google, twitter and just about any other social media platform actively sells your data and is actively working to make things you do less private or secure.

Mastodon is much better in those areas than any of the large social media sites. It is just that mastodon has a specific purpose and isn't an appropriate tool for private communication.

I once again feel the need to say that MatLab is terrible and should be forgotten. Julia or R would be a much better alternative, so is python (with numPy generally) and even C++ with armadillo is better than matlab for most things.

MatLab, in addition to being slow, does not play with others and therefore causes vender lock in academic research. I am not going to rant about that now because it would never stop.

Probably more than half of my commit messages are 'damn it, another typo'
