I'm fine btw :) I was lucky to only have mild symptoms and to be able to quarantine in a massive villa. We mostly hung out at the beach and ate ubereats. π₯³πΏπ¦ #capetown #travel #sabbatical #southafrica

Goodmorning #fediverse!
Three years ago I got this amazing opportunity to work for a non-profit and transform their IT dept, using as much #FOSS as possible. 28-year old me got to design, implement and manage all this cool tech and build an actual IT department. A year ago we migrated to a new self-hosted environment. Huge freedom, lots of responsibility.
Today I'm taking a first step to assess how our IT dept is functioning. The foundation is solid, but some parts def need more attention.

Jazz is super afraid of the ferry. Right now we're just sitting in front, calming him down, lots of treats and pets. Hopefully in 20 min or so he's calmed down enough to try it again. Otherwise we'll have to stay at home again :(
Also, sorry #Pixelfed but a 15MB limit is way too small for video.

What was meant to be an update turned out to be a full redeploy. All pc's are done deploying now and have a nice fresh install with the latest configuration that users can log into... BUT all files that users saved on their local desktops (instead of their Nextcloud folder) are gone.
Documenting this for future purposes and possible #FOSS tutorials. We learn something new every day.

Do you ever have these moments at work where you look around and realize that you're stuck in a capitalist cage and that there's a whole world out there that you want to see but you know you can't do it because 'money' and 'think of your career' while you and your dreams are slowly dying and that the thought of one more day in this office makes you miserable af but you also don't really see an alternative?
I'm having an interesting day.
