Cons--You have to correct the grammar of whatever 20 year old they have working in your file and they will never apologize or acknowledge when they make mistakes

Being a postdoc is weird. My job today entailed participating in an hour long discussion with a gulf state royal family member about environmentalism. His ideas and model of power weren't great: a lot of emphasis on individual values, patriarchal leadership, and the family instead of taking labor, gender, race, and class relations--or even infrastructure--as central to one's theory of change....

So, here's to not having a monarchy?

Academia: Sometimes It Is Not Bad!

I was planning to have a thoroughly grumpy day, lamenting the endless churn of grant writing that's filled my first month as a post-doc. But then I got an Accept w/Minor Revisions, less than 1 month after submitting, & full of kind suggestions 💟

Life post-phd: So far, it's been a month of writing about the research I'd like to do, and the budgets thereof, and 0 actual research. 👎 :psyduck:
