    I wouldn't call this "pretty excellent". Maybe your experience is different, but I had to click on all the replies that had replies to see them. I find the reddit/ycombinator approach better. Display the complete tree and allow users to collapse threads at any level. Still, it's better than what I'm seeing with gnusocial, but maybe there's a config setting or plugin that our admin hasn't had time to figure out.
