    This is an #EFF project, and it is good so far as it goes. It is meant to let one know what agencies are allowed to use facial recognition technology on the information that government agencies collect.

    But even if your state's DMV isn't allowed to use facial recognition on your identification documents, various police agencies also have access to that information. Likewise, your kids' schools and colleges / universities, even state-run institutions, take photos and may have wide discretion with little or no oversight on how they get used.

    And of course, this completely ignores the ways that non-public organizations and businesses may use facial recognition on data in their possession.

    As for banning end-to-end encryption, one of the best arguments is this: right now, a lot of big search, social networking, and chat / messaging sites are US-based, but banning E2EE will immediately handicap them in the rest of the world and move everyone to foreign providers that will not have this problem. In effect, this bill could kill the economy's tech sector.

    @licho !gnusocial Does GSNO use the "Store Remote Media" plugin? Some instances do not use it because of disk capacity or legal fears.
