    @dazinism @priryo

    Digging into the site though it isn't really an adequate replacement since I don't really see anywhere to purchase and download the music files -- just streaming rights.

    Things like bandcamp will just keep happening if we continue rely on start-up style privately held corporations to handle distribution. Their goal is always going to be to either get bought out by the big fish, or join them.

    What we need are artist cooperatives. If the platform itself is owned by the artits, it can't be sold out from underneath them.

    @codewiz

    I've never seen it not empty. Haven't been there in a while, I thought it had been converted to apartments and what stores were in it shut down...

    http://solarprotocol.net/

    Solar Protocol is a web platform hosted across a network of solar-powered servers set up in different locations around the world.

    Was looking for this last week, and stumbled upon it in an unrelated article I was just reading.

    @docskrzyk @thegibson I wonder though, if something like this could be advantageous towards federation? If Facebook et al are forced to set up 200+ operations all running under different legal frameworks they might loose the efficiency advantage of being in a centralized space versus pivoting towards a protocol-orientated approach. And if a couple big players (EU, etc.) force that protocol to be open and interop?
