Digging into the site though it isn't really an adequate replacement since I don't really see anywhere to purchase and download the music files -- just streaming rights.

Things like bandcamp will just keep happening if we continue rely on start-up style privately held corporations to handle distribution. Their goal is always going to be to either get bought out by the big fish, or join them.

What we need are artist cooperatives. If the platform itself is owned by the artits, it can't be sold out from underneath them.
