I'm glad that France and the UK finally found a common enemy -- their people. -

Hallå Kitteh (clacke@social.heldscal.la)'s status on Friday, 21-Apr-2017 22:13:39 UTC Hallå Kitteh @rushyo You are saying that there needs to be talking. When I say that talking works, you say it cannot scale, and that talking doesn't seem to be working.
The "GS Side", reflecting how the existing network works, has tried talking. Eugen has said "no, this is better", creating two mostly by not entirely compatible networks. That's the talking that isn't working.
Fine, code first, experiment with things, but don't say the others aren't open to talking. -

"Briefly stated, the Gell-Mann Amnesia effect is as follows. You open the newspaper to an article on some subject you know well. In Murray’s case, physics. In mine, show business. You read the article and see the journalist has absolutely no understanding of either the facts or the issues.
[ . . . ]
and then turn the page to national or international affairs, and read as if the rest of the newspaper was somehow more accurate about Palestine than the baloney you just read. You turn the page, and forget what you know.
That is the Gell-Mann Amnesia effect." -

Hallå Kitteh (clacke@social.heldscal.la)'s status on Saturday, 18-Mar-2017 21:48:12 UTC Hallå Kitteh @sonyam pump.io has private messaging, followers-only posting, federated identity so you can run around on other servers and comment using your home id, the API is lightweight and very consistent and understandable in comparison with GS+Qvitter (I hear), and it's the basis for the Next Big Thing, #activitypub.
pump.io was built in a few months by one guy though, and GS was built in a couple of years by several full-time people, so there are still quirks in the (actually intentionally) limited web UI. pump.io works best with a client.
@andstatus does a decent job. I'm not going to complain, because I still didn't file those bugs since last I complained, so the buck is with me. It's mostly about message formatting, other than that it's an awesome client for both GS and pump. -

If I follow you, it don't mean shit in terms of social recognition or your personal awesomeness. Maybe I hate you. It just means I saw an interesting conversation you participated in once, and I'm hoping there'll be more. I have a high tolerance for scrolling past uninteresting or annoying posts.
OTOH, if I unfollow you it means just as little. Maybe you have clever and relevant posts all the time and I love you and met you once and bought you drinks, it's just that your posting frequency drowns out everyone else, and I trust that anything super interesting you say will percolate to my stream from others anyway.
It's not a popularity contest. If we have meaningful conversations, we have meaningful conversations, and I'm glad for it and will probably strike up more.
Did i just sperg out a tiny bit? -

Hallå Kitteh (clacke@social.heldscal.la)'s status on Sunday, 12-Feb-2017 10:44:03 UTC Hallå Kitteh Putin *is* meddling in European elections. Basically every extreme-right-wing party in Europe gets financial support from Russia, and Russian news disseminated by those parties and their associated media outlets aims to undermine established political norms and protocol. -
Hallå Kitteh (clacke@social.heldscal.la)'s status on Sunday, 12-Feb-2017 10:08:30 UTC Hallå Kitteh @ajr @moonman From my perspective, the rise of nationalism and protectionism makes people act out like that. Protectionism tanks the economy in the hope to increase one's own relevance.
