@nanoha I don't leave my social network (!GNUsocial) to communicate privately with people I have gotten to know here. Nor do I find it troublesome to use another piece of software (some !XMPP client) in parallell that is awesome and streamlined for private communication.
In fact, this distinction is great for usability and understandability. Also for privacy, security and organisation of communication. -

@nanoha Private accounts (or instances) on !GNUsocial effectively disable federation. It just has to be clear to the user what you're missing out on (the clarity thing is something !GNUsocial doesn't live up to and I've been meaning to simply disable any option for "private stream" or "private post" and require explicit administrator interaction to even be able to enable it). -

@tuttle @lnxw48 I think this might be related to what @gargron has experienced on #Mastodon. The <content> element being empty/broken/something.
My guess it's got something to do with the instances that generate these errors. Something aborting the inclusion of <content> data. Oddly enough it only appears occasionally (otherwise it'd be rendered incorrectly in the Atom representation: https://status.vinilox.eu/api/statuses/show/4426688.atom
...but this assumes that if content is empty, !gnusocial falls back to the title property when parsing. Which I can't say I am 100% certain of without looking at the code. -

@takeshitakenji I have never experienced an improvement with #Memcache in !GNUSocial. The feeds are updated too often to make use of any caching that the database doesn't already do. -

@mike the URI one should use, which !GNUsocial requires, is the one presented for the author id element in the atom feed. The atom feed is linked from webfinger lookup for any alias. -
