    And now I'm seriously considering creating a text editor/IDE on Java, because a Java app could now be customized anytime just by editing it.

    This is really cool stuff, as you can use all the power of Java for... well, anything but creating a bootloader or a kernel with it. lol.

    Yes, now Java allows by default both testing lines of code on an REPL *and* quickly hack existing code. Hacking on Java is now possible!

    Ever got angry because Java is an interpreted language, yet requires you to compile to bytecode to test your code? Jshell to the rescue!

    This very likely has to do with the adoption by default of the G1 GC, which has apparently been optimized too since JDK 8.

    Trying out Oracle JRE 9.0.1 on Void. Is it me, or is it performing almost like native? Even with loadtimes and graphics???

    @jeffcliff And Java seems to have done great progress since 7, especially on 9. Even despite Oracle's questionable spending on judges.
