ℹ️ As you probably have heard, Meta (#Facebook, #Instagram, #WhatsApp) wants to join the :fediverse: #fediverse with a new project code named #Project92 and possibly named #Threads (https://www.theverge.com/2023/6/8/23754304/instagram-meta-twitter-competitor-threads-activitypub).

There are a lot of worries that it will overtake and pollute the fediverse (incl. Mastodon). There is even a lobby started that wants to coordinate to block Meta en masse. Others say that it's a great opportunity for Mastodon and the fediverse to have more users, content and publicity.

What about todon.eu and todon.nl I hear you ask. I like to poll the todon.* community about what to do with Meta when we have more facts, so when we can make an informed decision.

Todon Events is a (federated) #events website, powered by the open-source #Gancio (https://gancio.org). Events can easily be shared with the rest of the fediverse, RSS, iCalendar (.ics), your blog and even on capitalist social media. You don't need to have a group account and page like on #Mobilizon. Events only!

You can follow ALL events on Todon Events in the fediverse via @todon.events, RSS (https://events.todon.eu/feed/rss?show_recurrent=true) and ICS (https://events.todon.eu/feed/ics?show_recurrent=true).

If you are group/person we know and trust (like todon.eu and todon.nl users), you can ask for an account via email (todon@posteo.eu). Everyone else can add an event anonymously (we only need to approve/decline your event manually, so no spam). Events published on Todon Events should be of course in line with our Terms of Service (https://wiki.todon.eu/todon/terms_en).

P.S. The highlight color orange is going to change into Mastodon purplish in the near futrue. Also the dark theme being default is fixed in the next Gancio version. If you want dark then click on the +- icon on the right (a cookie will remember it).

ℹ️ ✍️ There is some controversy about journalists quoting people from the fediverse, what they also do on the almost extinct bird. This is not illegal and common practice on social media, and falls under citation right (EU) / fair use (US) and the freedom of press. Something that I and others on Todon.* find important. Still it's not done that they do this without permission. So to avoid this you can do the following:

#1. Write in your bio and a pinned post that you don't want be quoted. You even can select a license from https://creativecommons.org/.

#2. If you really want to be safe, make sure you always post to followers only (https://todon.nl/settings/preferences/other) and require follow requests (https://todon.eu/settings/profile).

If they still quote you, especially after #2 I advise you to contact the journalist or news organisation.

ℹ️ :todon: Because the admin also wants some rest 🍻 once in a while, the registrations on both .nl and .eu are closed until further notice.

ℹ️ 🆕 :todon: There are many new account requests coming in. Of course we are just as thorough when there is only one account request per day. So a message to people who did an account request today (or after today):

Please be patient, we see you! And if you are declined, there are many many many other servers/instances who don't have a safety policy at the door.
