@dosnostalgic I've heard this game is crazy hard, with all sorts of Sierra-style unwinnable scenarios that are easy to get trapped into. Was that your experience playing the game?

Comchia (comchia@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 15-Jun-2024 09:37:57 UTC Comchia My current cassette collection.
Cassette tape remains my favourite audio format; I love how it sounds, and how bulky, and yet small and cheap, the tapes are. I'm immensely happy the format is making a comeback.
I love cassettes to the point where I've grown more fond of artists that drop their records on the format. Me being a Swiftie, and a diehard fan of The Beths and Soccer Mommy, are likely due to their records being in that format.

Comchia (comchia@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 02-Jun-2024 17:41:25 UTC Comchia @dosnostalgic that looks rather impressive and detailed for 1983. Aesthetically, it reminds me a bit of Karateka.

Comchia (comchia@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 24-May-2024 00:56:38 UTC Comchia @dosnostalgic this is the first RPG game I've finished on more than one platform (PS1, Wonderswan). I loved this remake in early access, and am excited to play it on Switch. Despite its faults, I love the simple but challenging gameplay, and I especially love the Japanese interpretation of the franchise.
I saw that the Japanese version apparently has some physical copies, ala Limited Run-style, which I'm considering getting, but idk yet.

Comchia (comchia@mastodon.social)'s status on Tuesday, 14-May-2024 14:11:16 UTC Comchia @dosnostalgic that's a helluva intersection, and now I'm interested, especially being a vintage gamer with WW2-surviving family. Mechner's talent knows hardly any bounds.

I really have to take more advantage of my Bluesky account. I like a lot of stuff there. -
Comchia (comchia@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 07-Jan-2024 03:15:40 UTC Comchia @dosnostalgic I sometimes love going to films with full audience participation (especially the excited Force Awakens and Endgame crowds, and singing and dancing to Taylor Swift's Eras film), but i get that it wouldn't be for everyone. I hate it when it isn't prompted well!

Comchia (comchia@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 01-Jun-2023 16:32:49 UTC Comchia @dosnostalgic I really like the old tech aesthetic mixed with futuristic function (mono grime screens, seven segment displays, etc...), so I'm glad some of that is still here. What you described was the impression I got playing the demo from a while back.

Comchia (comchia@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 15-Jan-2023 02:19:10 UTC Comchia @dosnostalgic as a kid, the non-Sound Blaster/AdLib options were always an enigma to me, not having a Roland or Gravis card. I'm glad that DOSBox lets me finally hear them, and man, are they a beauty.
Digitised PC speaker, especially in Falcon 3.0 and Interphase, is also my jam. I love how rough and tough it sounds.

Comchia (comchia@mastodon.social)'s status on Tuesday, 03-Jan-2023 05:14:50 UTC Comchia @dosnostalgic @Bhaal_Spawn @HunterZ yeah, it's quite creative in execution, especially for 1989. I wouldn't be surprised if this influenced System Shock. It's neat to me what kind of world was made with such simple shapes.
I'm especially impressed by how good the digitised PC speaker sound is, even comparing to the Atari ST port. I actually kinda like the harsher sound it has, especially on gun blasts. My DOSBox doesn't seem to like its Adlib, though.

Comchia (comchia@mastodon.social)'s status on Tuesday, 03-Jan-2023 04:39:42 UTC Comchia Yesterday, I played a bit of the 1989 MS-DOS game Interphase.
The complex gameplay is rather intriguing, reminding me of a more primitive Descent or System Shock. I also love the flat-shaded polygons that call me back to SNES StarFox. Even the PC speaker shines in this game, with digitised sound.

Comchia (comchia@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 11-Dec-2022 23:51:15 UTC Comchia @dosnostalgic it kinda reminds me of CGA Roadblasters. My dad had this on a CD full of Titus games in the 90s, but I didn't get around to playing it, as I couldn't work the CD. :P

Comchia (comchia@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 03-Dec-2022 17:14:28 UTC Comchia @dosnostalgic I've been using the Internets since around 1997, but I used to play the Mac OS 7 (I think) port of The Oregon Trail around the same time, thanks to my elementary school. I liked the GUI interface that port had.

Comchia (comchia@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 03-Dec-2022 16:48:25 UTC Comchia I spent a good chunk of today playing the 1986 MS-DOS RPG game Shard of Spring.
There's some things I don't like about it (can't sell items, some interface and pacing issues, ugly 4-colour CGA, etc...), but I like the simple but challenging nature of this game, especially in combat, so I'm happy with what I'm playing.I'm especially impressed at how it was apparently made in BASIC, even if it's kinda slow.
