@kat@quitter.se @benfell@cybernude.org I'm trying out !Devuan in a VM. So far, it seems that the Devuan repositories aren't quite as rich as the !Debian repositories. Some non-repository .deb packages (eg. #FreeSwitch) have #SystemD dependencies, and won't install on Devuan. But my choice of init system is only limited by the amount of work I'm willing to do to recompile packages... -

From absolutely zilch, I just registered with a VPS provider https://datamantle.com/ (use the promotion code LAUNCH for some gratis credit), installed Debian, configured Apache, MariaDB, phpmyadmin; installed !GNUsocial, and created @bobjonkman2@gs.sobac.com all in about four hours. Ain't so tough. -

To get !GNUsocial for HTTPS only first set up your Web server for HTTPS only (including redirects from HTTP to HTTPS), then install GNUsocial normally. You'll only have problems if you install GNUsocial with HTTP then switch the server to HTTPS later (or vice versa), or arbitrarily allow HTTP and HTTPS connections for the same URLs. -

At last night's @KWVoIP meeting I was told my #Twitter feed is a disjoint series of half-conversations. Tried to explain that's because #Twitter doesn't federate with the !Fediverse, offered him a spot on sn.jonkman.ca. Got told that it wasn't *his* problem, so he shouldn't have to do extra work to see my feed. Didn't help when I pointed out that he was the one complaining, I'm perfectly satisfied being a disjoint half-wit on #Twitter. -

@roland Have you tried !Nextcloud? Same codebase at the moment, but likely to diverge in the next release. FWIW, I'm not having the problems you're describing, but I'm not using encrypted storage either (fully !selfhosted) -

!ownCloud and !Nextcloud need access to the encryption key, but the offsite storage provider does not. So, if you keep your ownClould/Nextcloud server securely on your premises then you can use an offsite storage provider and get some additional security from encrypted storage. -
